I have been making rose flower sculptures for 11 years now. Ceramic bone china rose flowers for that long. I have been a part time demonstrator at Coalport China Museum since May of 2004.
My flower people were born one evening in November 2013. I had been making some figurines with curly heads. Love Wisps I call them. But I messed one head up. So I would put a flower on its neck. I then shared on my facebook profile page and friends started liking it. Then a couple asked me to make them one, which I did. This led me to create and my facebook page. Not long later people were asking for commissions and shops approached me. I now make them and sell them on my website here, but also at a few shops around the country and around the world.
I have used many clays and found a 50/50 porcelain and stone ware clay is ideal for a glazed finish. For a marble mat or bisc finish, I use parian clay. Parian clay is a self glazing clay which appears like marble. It is hard to sculpt with as its not a sculpting clay, however I manage but sometimes get tiny cracks. Click here to learn more about me.
